Sanctuary Scholarships
The University launched Sanctuary Scholarships in 2022. Building on the success of the Open Futures Fund, Sanctuary Scholarships offer financial support for refugee, forced migrant and asylum seeker students, providing futures full of hope and opportunity.
People arriving in the UK seeking refuge from threats to their lives face many challenges, but they also have the opportunity to build a new life and a hopeful future for their families.
For many people seeking sanctuary, the security of arriving in the UK after fleeing armed conflict or persecution in their home nation, often means they have their very first opportunity to engage with higher education and/or have access to meaningful employment. Other people seeking sanctuary are successful and highly qualified professionals in their country of origin but need recognised qualifications to continue their careers in the UK. Sanctuary scholarships enable students to rewrite their futures and contribute to the society in which they make their new homes.
Since launching in 2022, 24 scholarships have been awarded.
Please join your fellow alumni and donors by making a gift to ensure that a further 12 scholarships are provided in 2024 through the Sanctuary Scholarships programme.
